1 Introduction

Time-of-flight (ToF) techniques have been used for ranging purposes for over more than a century. Now

with technology advancements, the speed and size of electronics can build small and affordable ToF￾based proximity sensor systems. The purpose of this document is to educate the reader about ToF

proximity system design. There are several parameters that govern the performance of the system.

 This document describes the detailed functionality of ToF proximity systems, explains the trade-offs involved in

a typical ToF proximity system and provides a step-by-step ToF system design flow.
